History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The company's initial name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling equipment.
