Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are large industrial machinery designed with a straight boom arm which is extendable. The boom is typically located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are typically utilized for jobs that need tasks to be performed at heights which exceed other types of lifts. Like for example, employees could perform exterior renovations or repairs on buildings of medium height but using these lifts as opposed to having the additional work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift is only designed to hold a single person. These buckets are more suited to specific tasks like electrical repair, as opposed to general maintenance or window washing. These lifts are available with both indoor and outdoor tires and are available in electric and gas configurations.
Scissor Lifts
Beneath the scissor lifts work platform are the cross braces in which the equipment gets its name. When the braces move together it pushes the platform straight up. Because these machinery should be positioned directly below the work location, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, offer bigger platforms which enable the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface when the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of a concern with these models, since they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are ideal for being used for cladding or window installation, because they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a good alternative for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The cherry picker or boom truck refers to the utility vehicle often utilized to lift workers for different jobs performed at heights. Typically, these trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and controls the machinery. There is a bucket for where the worker could stand as well as a winch for lifting and an actuator arm for raising the boom.
Cherry pickers can raise employees up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to lift both heavy materials and equipment for one location to another. There are a variety of different crane types which could perform a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at different tasks and are great for specific applications and completing certain jobs.
