In the year 1949, the Liebherr family business was established by Hans Liebherr. His first claim to fame was the success of his inexpensive and easy-to-assemble mobile tower crane. It was upon this creation that the foundation of the company flourished under. These days, The Liebherr company has grown to become among the world's leading manufacturers of construction equipment. The company has also earned the reputation of being the accredited supplier of user-oriented technically innovative products and services in various fields. The business has now become a "Group" working in every continent with over 130 companies and more than 35,000 workers across the world.

The holding company of the Liebherr Group is Liebherr-International AG. Liebherr-International AG is situated within Bulle, Switzerland and is operating by the Liebherr family members. Presently, the family business is being managed in the second generation by Dr. H.C. Isolde Liebherr and her brother Dr. H.C. Willi Liebherr. Ever since the year 2012, several of the active individual divisions have been represented by members of the family in the 3rd generation such as: Stefanie Wohlfarth, Patricia Ruf, Sophie Albrecht and Jan Liebherr. These members of the family have been working hard together to help set up the family business' course in the future. They are staying on top of large-scale industrial projects and residential buildings across the world.
Hans Liebherr began to build his business during the year 1949, within a tiny town known as Kirchdorf within southern Germany. Kirchdorf, presently supports one of Liebherr's 20 manufacturing locations.
